A domicile, or house, is usually a room used as a semi-permanent or permanent residence for an individual, family or group. It’s typically a fully furnished or partially finished space and may have both external and internal elements to it. While it was once a place where a family would live and raise their families, the term has now stretched to describe a private home that may be used for visiting or socializing, rather than being a more permanent residence like a hotel or apartment. This type of dwelling is usually located within a developed community such as a city, suburb or village.

The feeling of comfort and security in a home means different things to different people. For some, a comfortably furnished, warm and cosy interior with good ventilation and light means just the thing they need to feel safe and secured. Meanwhile, for others a perfectly modern, open space with all the mod cons needed means they can enjoy all the modern comforts without the feeling of confinement.

In terms of what actually makes a home, there are a number of factors that make up this universal concept. Home means different things to different people depending on their circumstances. For some people a home means a place that has no restrictions. You might have spent most of your life working from home so you have nothing to lose by throwing that job behind you and starting a new life in a new place. For other people a home means a comfortable furnished room with enough space to get away with a bit of a social life.

How you define home means different things to different people, too. Do you like to go out to dinner every night or spend time relaxing and just watching TV? For others a home means a clean, organized environment where they feel at ease and secure. Maybe, you like the idea of waking up to the sound of nature’s call and being able to smell the grass in the morning. A home means a place that is comfortable and functional for you and that makes you feel happy and positive about yourself and your future.

What it means to you depends on what kind of peace you are looking for. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that a new house means a new Caroline. There are so many ways that spending time with the family in the form of memories and walks through the house can be so much fun. What it means to you may depend on what you remember when you were younger and what brought you to consider home as something else but once you have made the decision to buy your first home it shouldn’t take you very long to work out what it means to you.

In many ways home is an achievement. Owning your own home opens up all sorts of possibilities and presents you with the opportunity to create a whole new kind of lifestyle. You can make it feel like you have a community that shares your interests and loves you no matter what you do. You can create a home that gives you many options for entertaining and make sure that you are surrounded by people who love you for who you are. A home is something that you have worked hard for and it comes with responsibilities but owning your own home is also something that should bring you a sense of freedom and a real sense of satisfaction.
