Health is a condition of mental, physical and emotional well being in which infirmity and illness are absent. We all have the basic requirements for health such as air, food, water and shelter. Health is also related to our behavior and what we do to maintain it. People may have good health on the inside but when it comes to their behavior, they are weak and this affects their ability to cope up with daily demands. The following tips can help you achieve and maintain good health.

To understand what makes you feel good or bad, you have to understand the difference between mental health and wellbeing. Having a happy disposition and positive outlook in life is very important to improving your wellbeing. A happy disposition means that you are optimistic that things will turn out well while a negative disposition says that things will turn out badly. These two are different and having a healthy mixture of both will define health and illness more clearly.

The causes of illnesses and disabilities are varied and there are many interrelated factors such as genes, behaviours, environments, nutrition, demographics and life experiences. There are also socioeconomic differences and these affect the gaps between good health and poor health. The major factors that affect the wellness of the residents are: the prevalence of illnesses or disabilities, the quality and types of health services, the response of the community to these conditions and the role of government and organizations in providing these conditions and services.

As discussed earlier, health outcomes are influenced by two factors – the prevalence of illness or disability and the response of the community to these conditions. The poor health status of residents in the United States can be traced to many factors. The health outcomes in the United States are strikingly poor especially in the elderly. It has been found that the greatest disparity in physical health and psychological health is found in the black and white communities. The health gap between the rich and the poor is huge in the United States and it is largest in the developed countries. The major factors that contribute to the health disparities in the United States are the differences in lifestyles and the lack of preventive measures and greater susceptibility to illness due to genetic factors, lower educational levels and lower income, higher caloric intake, greater fat and sugar intake and unhealthy behaviours and environments.

The differences in health outcomes are not evenly distributed across the states in the United States. They are more concentrated in certain regions. There are areas in the United States where the poor health outcomes are the worst. These areas have the highest rate of disability and illness and also the highest rate of uninsured people. The largest areas with the lowest health disparities are the south, the Pacific Northwest, the upper Midwest, and the upper interior.

Socioeconomic status has a profound effect on health and it is therefore important for all Americans to adopt healthy diets and lifestyles in order to achieve good health. These measures will ensure that everyone has access to the necessary resources to avoid illness and live a long, disease-free life. If the developed countries can improve their health and offer a healthy diet and lifestyle to their citizens, they should do the same in the United States. By doing so, the United States will become more successful and we can become a first world country.
